I never ever wanted to be a photographer. Ever. I fought this career path for so long (probably 9 outta the 10 years), but somehow it chose me. I truly believe this.
On Sunday, the group show for Alison's Daughters opened. 15 photographers were selected to participate in this exhibition to celebrate the centenary of International Womens Day. I am one of those photographers.
If I can take this opportunity to say how appreciative I am and grateful to all the women photographers before me for allowing me to pursue this path. To Imogen Cunningham, Berenice Abbott, Sabine Weiss to one of my heroes Diane Arbus and the many more. Thank you for inspiring and pushing the techniques and boundaries within the medium.
I also want to thank my mum for being one of the first great artists I met. Watching you knit, cook and garden are all collected images embedded in my mind. Thank you also for never discouraging me from pursuing my art whether it was from the days I wanted to be a singer, an actor or film maker. Thank you always and forever.
To my 2 best friends CB and ELH. Thank you. You have been nothing but supportive in my artistic pursuits. I thank you not only for your support, but with your time, patience and understanding. "You are my bestest friends".
Anyway, I don't know if my images have any relevance to anything I ever write, but if you should be reading this blog, please take the time to acknowledge the women in your lives.
Till next time-A
